What the Procedure Involves

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia, with incision, placement, and size agreed before the day of surgery. Most patients go home the same day.

Incisions: the breast crease is the most common. Around the areola or in the underarm are alternatives, chosen for access and how the scar will sit
Placement: behind the breast tissue, behind the chest muscle, or a dual-plane approach when extra coverage will look more natural
Time: typically 1–2 hours
Recovery: many patients return to desk work in about a week. Fuller healing and a return to strenuous exercise usually take 4–6 weeks

The implant is selected for feel, shape, and how it will sit on your chest. It is not a one-size default. Size comes from measurements, your tissue, and the proportion you want.

Silicone gel often feels closer to natural breast tissue. Saline can be filled once it is in place and uses a smaller incision

Safety

What You Should Know Before Deciding

Before surgery, your specialist reviews your health, breast history, and goals, and arranges any imaging or clearance the plan needs. On the day, the procedure follows that plan: incision, pocket, placement, and closure.

Afterwards you receive a written recovery plan, a support garment, and scheduled reviews while swelling settles. As with any surgery, bleeding, infection, scarring, sensation change, rupture, and capsular contracture are part of an honest consultation. Implants are not lifetime devices and may need review or replacement later.
